The SG 552 Commando is a compact carbine variant of the original SIG SG 550. It has a shorter 8.9inch barrel with an open, three-prong flash suppressor and gas tube, ventilated handguards and a redesigned bolt carrier group that was integrated with the piston rod to form a single moving assembly.
The 552 Commando is categorized as an assault rifle in the Rainbow Six universe.
Vegas[]
The 552 Commando is a weapon featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas.
Overview[]
The weapon is very powerful due to its high fire rate, damage and penetration. It is very good at close-to-medium range, but the damage drops off sharply at a distance. The Reflex Scope and Laser Sight are recommended for this weapon since this weapon performs the best at close-to-medium range, though the default iron sights are clear and offer a lot of peripheral vision. There is no burst delay for this fire mod, though, so the weapon will shoot as fast as the trigger is pulled.
Story and Terrorist Hunt[]
The 552 Commando is unlocked by default in the Story Mode and Terrorist Hunt game modes. It appears as the standard issue assault rifle of Team Rainbow in the game. It is most notably seen being used by the main character Logan Keller. In its class, it deals the highest damage and penetration of all the assault rifles in-game.
One of the drawbacks of the weapon is that ammunition is not seen frequently in both game modes since it is not a weapon terrorists use often. Terrorists will only use this weapon in story mode in certain areas and will never actually use this rifle in the Terrorist Hunt game mode. Enemy terrorists will generally go down in 1-2 well-placed shots of the weapon, and the recoil is controllable.
Multiplayer[]
The 552 Commando is unlocked upon reaching the Specialist rank in Multiplayer.

Vegas 2[]
The 552 Commando is a weapon featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. It features the same configuration as its Vegas 1 counterpart.
Story and Terrorist Hunt[]
Much like Vegas 1, the 552 Commando is unlocked by default in the game. Once again, it is the standard issue assault rifle of Team Rainbow. The weapon behaves almost exactly the same as the last game, so its damage and penetration are the greatest compared to the other assault rifles, but its accuracy is below average. Sights for the weapon remain unchanged, so its iron sights are very good. Its sights offer a good sight picture and a lot of peripheral vision. The Reflex Scope, High-Capacity Mag, and Laser Sight are recommended for the weapon since the weapon performs the best at close to medium range. A player might want to avoid the ACOG Scope and 6X Scope for these reasons. Much like the last game, running around with the weapon is not recommended, since its accuracy becomes very poor when the player starts moving around with the weapon in hand.
Multiplayer[]
The weapon is unlocked by default in the multiplayer since unlocks also still carry over to all three game modes. The weapon performs the same as the last game and is very popular among newer players to the game. A player might make this weapon their preferred assault rifle through multiplayer, because of its high damage and penetration.

Siege[]
- "Medium range carbine, 30 round magazine, medium penetration at optimal range, 690 rounds/min."
— In-game description
The 552 Commando is an assault rifle featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It is available for use by IQ and Grim.
Overview[]
Packing a bigger punch than the AUG A2 in terms of damage, this assault rifle performs well at mid to long range engagements. Though like the 556XI and the L85A2, close-range engagements may be difficult due to its mediocre rate of fire. The 552 Commando has a slightly jumpy recoil compared to other low-fire-rate weapons, but is still well within the manageable range.
Pros[]
- Fast reload time
- High single-shot damage
Cons[]
- Recoil is noticeable - especially without proper attachments
- Slow rate of fire
- Under performing suppressor damage

Trivia[]
- In all appearances of the weapon, the rifle incorrectly feeds 30 rounds out of a modeled 20 round magazine based on the Magpul PMAG 20 AR/M4 GEN M3 magazine.
Vegas[]
- The 552 Commando lacked the three round burst fire mode.
- When mounting an optic onto the weapon, the rear sight still stayed unlike in post-release.
- The sights for the weapon were positioned higher as well. You could not see the bottom of the front sight like you can in the post-release, but rather the character aimed down the middle of the wire sight.
Vegas 1 & 2[]
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas
- The first person model of the weapon has a flash hider, but the third person model lacks this.
- The charging handle of the weapon incorrectly does not reciprocate when the player is firing it in third person view.
- The fire selector is incorrectly locked on the safe setting and does not change when the player switches fire modes.
- The bullets in the see-through magazine never actually disappear when you fire the weapon, and they actually appear to be painted on. If a player reloads the weapon from empty, they can still see the bullets on the side of the supposedly empty magazine.
- When mounting an optic to the weapon, the rear sight completely disappears while the front sight post still stays, although the front sight itself is missing.
Siege[]
- A real, uncustomized 552 Commando lacks the integrated Picatinny rails found on the in-game model.
