The AK-74 (Russian: Автомат Калашникова образца 1974 года, lit. Kalashnikov's Automatic Rifle Model 1974) is an assault rifle developed in the early 1970s by Russian designer Mikhail Kalashnikov as the replacement for the earlier AKM (itself a refined version of the AK-47). It uses a smaller 5.45×39mm cartridge, replacing the 7.62×39mm chambering of earlier Kalashnikov-pattern weapons.

Rogue Spear[]

The AK-74 is a weapon featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. The weapon is unusable to the player though but is seen as the most common enemy weapon. It is used by the Russian mercenaries.

Siege[]

"This more recent variant of the most manufactured gun fires a lighter caliber than its predecessor. Provides adequate range rate of fire."
— In-game description

The AK-74M is an assault rifle featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege in the Operation Wind Bastion expansion. It is available for use by Nomad & Deimos. It is also seen in a few operator videos by Terrorists.

Overview[]

The AK-74M is by all standards an average assault rifle with fairly manageable recoil but slow fire rate. Unlike other assault rifles, the AK-74M features a hefty 40-round magazine, making it a flexible weapon choice for critical situations. Nomad's Airjab Launcher prevents the rifle from equipping any foregrips.

Pros[]

  • Low vertical recoil
  • High magazine capacity
  • Good damage per shot

Cons[]

  • Low rate of fire
  • High horizontal recoil

Overview[]

The AK-74M functions in a similar manner as it's counterpart in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It is an average assault rifle with fairly manageable recoil but slow fire rate. Unlike other assault rifles, it has a hefty 40-round magazine, making it a flexible weapon choice for critical situations. Nomad's Airjab Launcher prevents the rifle from equipping any foregrips.

Pros[]

Trivia[]

Siege & Extraction[]

  • The AK-74M uses accessories from Magpul Industries of an MOE AK Stock, MOE AK+ Pistol Grip, and a MOE AK Handguard including a Railed AK rear sight from Strike Industries. The magazine used to be a 7.62×39 Waffle-Patterned magazine during Operation Wind Bastion, but was switched to a Bakelite 5.45×39 magazine in Operation Burnt Horizon. In reality, these magazines would only hold a maximum of 30 rounds instead of the game's 40.
  • The AK-74M has a unique Reflex Sight based on the Steiner Micro Reflex Sight similar to Clash's SPSMG9.
  • Despite the fact that it is refered to as the AK-74M, and the text blurb about it mentions that the gun uses a lighter caliber, the model for the gun is actually a Century Arms WASR-10, which is an American-made clone of the AKM chambered in 7.62×39mm.
    • The weapon model has the words "WASR-10 Cal. 5.45×39mm" written on the side of the receiver. In reality, only the WASR-2 variant is chambered in 5.45.
    • Additionally, as they were intended for the civillian market, WASR rifles are semi-automatic only.
    • As stated above, the magazine also used to be a more curved 7.62×39mm, and eventually swapped to a straighter 5.45×39mm magazine. This change was appropriate for an "AK-74M", but does not remedy the fact that the WASR-10 itself does not chamber 5.45mm, nor the fact that only certain WASR-10 rifles can actually accept conventional double-stack AK magazines.
  • In Extraction, the weapon was originally erroneously listed on the game's website as an AK-47.
  • Despite having a 3-round burst firing mode available in game, real AK-74M has only semi-automatic and automatic modes.
