Sébastien "Buck" Côté is an Attacking Operator featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, introduced in the Operation Black Ice expansion alongside Frost. He features medium armor and speed and is able to use an under-barrel mounted shotgun "Skeleton Key".

Biography

Born in Montreal, Canada, Côté always wanted to lead an unconventional life. In order to attend University, he enrolled in the Regular Officer Training Plan and was accepted into Université du Québec. It was here that he earned a Bachelors degree in Arts and Criminology. After graduation, he became a MP in the Canadian Army. After his service had been completed, he joined the Canadian Mounted Police and eventually became part of the Emergency Response Team. He was trained in a variety of anti-criminal tactics such as Hostage Rescue and Special Protection Operations as well as international drug smuggling. After excelling in his position at the ERT, he was invited by the Canadian military to rejoin and become a member of Joint Task Force 2.

Personality

Highly pragmatic, Côté will always take the shortest distance between two points. He is not one to mince words, or become hyperbolic. He enjoys simple mechanical devices to the more high tech arsenal employed by other members of Team Rainbow.

Gameplay Description

  • Even though Buck's shotgun can breach through most surfaces, it cannot breach through Castle's barricades.
  • Despite Buck's Skeleton Key being described as a breaching shotgun, it is not very effective at breaching walls to make holes big enough to move through. It is therefore a good idea to load out with a Breach Charge anyway.
  • The Skeleton Key, while effective at close range, becomes useless as a weapon beyond tight quarters. It is not a good idea to try using ass a weapon when not in extremely close quarters.
  • The C8-SFW has high vertical recoil in automatic fire, especially compared to most other Assault Rifles due to the inability to equip a foregrip on it. It is advisable to "tap-fire" it or shoot in small bursts instead of sustained fire.
  • Similarly to Twitch with her 417 Rifle, the CAMRS is best used with an ACOG sight at range as more of a support role.

R6SBI Buck stats

The Skeleton Key, an under-barrel mounted 12 gauge shotgun, allows Buck to swiftly breach and target hostiles. By changing hand positions on his assault rifle, he is able to quickly switch from ranged to close-quarter combat. The Skeleton Key is also an effective breaching tool to destroy barricades or create a line of sight.[1]

Field Notes

  • Buck is effective at both close and long range depending on the weapon the player choses to use. The C8-SFW is effective at close to medium range, and is even decent at long range should the weapon be set to single-fire instead of automatic. The CAMRS is effective for players who prefer to pick off enemies from a distance, and the shotgun is effective should the enemy try to get up close.
  • When using the CAMRS, it is recommended that you equip the ACOG sight and Compensator to the weapon as you will have increased visibility when aiming and less recoil when fire at enemy operators. The laser sight is not recommended for this weapon due to it's low rate of fire and poor hip-fire accuracy.
  • When Buck's main weapon runs out of ammo, it is highly recommended that players switch to the Master Key rather than switching to a pistol as switching to the Master Key is much faster and does not require the player to switch weapons while in a firefight.

Trivia

  • The name SK 4-12 is shortening for Skeleton Key. The numbers refers to magazine capacity and reserve ammunition of the weapon.
    • The name of the under-barrel mounted shotgun, Skeleton Key, alludes to the KAC Masterkey under-barrel mounted shotgun, as a Skeleton key is a type of Master key.
      • However, it's instead based on the M26 MASS underbarrel shotgun.
      • The names of both shotguns alludes to their use as door breaching shotguns.
  • Buck is the first operator to have his face completely visible.
  • His blood type is O+ as seen on one of the pouches on his rig.
