Dr. Catherine Winston is a research scientist and a major character in the first Rainbow Six game. She is first seen being held as hostage by Hutu rebels in the level Cold Thunder, after being saved by Rainbow operatives she helps then as being a consultant to the agency and using her experience in microbiology to understand and research the virus created by the phoenix group, a terrorist group and major villains in the game.

Biography

Catherine Winston was born in Los Angeles, California in 1965. She joined the California Institute of Technology and graduated in Biology in 1985, after that she went to the Stanford University and got a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in 1992. Her early work was centered on development of bioengineered "cocktails" for the treatment of drug- resistant strains of tuberculosis. For her work she was awarded with MacArthur fellowship in 1995. In the next year, 1996, she was employed by the Horizon Corporation and since then she worked in their advanced research group. Her primary research focus in the Corporation was isolating the cause of a recent epidemic that has struck the African cattle population. The virus, which was ebola, that caused the epidemic was latter used by the corporation and the phoenix group to develop a virus, without her acknowledge, that would kill all human race. She then helps Rainbow to find a cure and stop the virus from being used.
