While the Extended Barrel has no discernable effect on recoil, equipping it does involve missing out on other potentially recoil-reducing attachments. Because most gunfights occur in short-to-medium range, the usefulness of the Extended Barrel is rather questionable in most situations. In addition, the attachment increases the physical length of the weapon considerably, making it easier for enemies to spot the operator when peeking around a corner.

"Provides the full damage over a longer distance range, which offers you more options in terms of positioning to take down your opponents."
— In-game description

The Extended Barrel is a weapon attachment featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

Overview

Contrary to the in-game description, the damage drop-off for any weapon that has the Extended Barrel attached starts at the exact same distance. This means that the Extended Barrel does not provide full power over a greater distance. Instead, damage drop-off is reduced by 15-20%.[1]

However, certain weapons, like the P90 and the M12, may benefit from this attachment, ensuring static damage at all ranges. The 9mm C1 SMG and FO-12 shotgun do not have access to attachments that decrease recoil, making the Extended Barrel a viable option as an alternative to a Suppressor. Finally, certain weapons with already manageable recoil such as the P10 RONI may benefit from this attachment.
