Igor "Zaitsev" Kutkin is the main antagonist of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear (GBA).

Biography[]

Igor Kutkin is a high ranking member of the Russian Mafia. He became involved in the Mafia's weapons black market and drug deals across Eastern Europe and the ex-USSR, taking on the alias of "Zaitsev". He also established the SamRand Group in order to cover his illegal activities. Upon learning of the death of his younger brother, Maxim Kutkin, at the hands of Rainbow, Igor sought to take revenge. In early 2002, Kutkin tasked Alexei Kiraikov with orchestrating a series of terrorist attacks across the world with the goal of gaining Rainbow's attention. Kiraikov accomplished this by tricking various terrorist groups into performing these acts; either with large sums of money or by having his men infiltrate the organizations. Afterwards, Kutkin ordered Kiraikov to allow himself to be captured by Rainbow so that he could inform them of one of Kutkin's base of operations at the Rollenstein Building in Dresden, Germany. Kutkin then allowed Rainbow to bug his facility so that he could provide them with false intelligence.

Kutin later kidnapped several ex-Soviet scientists and forced them to develop a Russian SS-27 ICBM at a dismantled nuclear research base in Plesetzk, Russia. With the ICBM complete, Kutkin had it transported to a industrial complex in Ust' Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan. He then baited Rainbow to assault the research base in Plestzk by giving an anonymous tip to the Moscow intelligence community. This was done in order to reveal his identity to Rainbow and gloat about having possession of a nuclear device. On May 19th and May 20th, Rainbow stormed the base as Kutkin had intended.

On May 24th, Kutkin lured Rainbow to the Rollenstein Building in Germany by leading them to believe it was his current location. Kutkin then stationed a large number of soldiers at the facility in the hope of eliminating the Rainbow Operatives and buying enough time to launch the ICBM. Despite his efforts, however, Rainbow was able to neutralize all of Kutkin's men and learned of his intention to launch the ICBM at Rainbow headquarters in Hereford, England. On May 26th, Rainbow Intelligence discovered the location of Kutkin's base in Kazakhstan and enacted an operation to assault it. Although Kutkin and his men displayed heavy resistance, Rainbow was ultimately successful in stopping the ICBM from being launched and eliminated Kutkin and his remaining forces.

Trivia[]
