- "Assault rifle favored by SAS for medium to long range combat. Takes 5.56×45mm rounds."
— In-game description
The L85A2 is the latest iteration of the SA80 family, which have been the standard issue service rifle of the British Armed Forces since 1987. Much like the Type-89, it's heavily based on the gas-operated ArmaLite AR-18 platform.
In game, with an easily manageable recoil and a damage model that allows it to kill all Operator Armor types in three bullets, it performs well at mid to long range engagements, with its mediocre rate of fire being the main drawback.
The L85A2's low vertical recoil allows the comfortable use of a Compensator, which can further improve the weapon's horizontal stability to optimize for longer sprays and mid to long range engagements.
- Low vertical recoil
- High damage per shot
- Low damage dropoff
- Slow rate of fire
- Under performing in close range combat
- High horizontal recoil
In the CQC Basics Situation, the character plays as an SAS Recruit equipped with an L85A2 with a MH1 Holographic Sight, Flash Hider, Vertical Grip, and a P226 Mk 25 as a sidearm. In both game modes, the White Masks will often wield this rifle in their numbers.
- Like in Vegas 2, the L85A2's iron sights completely disappear when mounting a different sight. This shares the qualities of other weapons in-game.
