The M40 is a bolt-action sniper rifle manufactured by Remington Arms, and then modified by United States Marine Corps armorers. The M40 is built off of the Remington 700 rifle, and takes many similarities from that rifle family. The M40A1 is the second variant of the M40 rifle.[1]
The M40A1 is categorized as a sniper rifle in the Rainbow Six universe. The M40A1 appears in both Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 & 2
- In the games, the M40A1 is shown incorrectly to have a removable box magazine. The real M40A1 has an integral 5 round magazine.
- One interesting thing to note is that the M40A5 (the variant that has a detachable box magazine) wasn't even introduced or let alone exist at the time the Vegas games were produced.
