Welcome to Emerald Plains. Pull up a chair and pour a drink as we deep dive into what you can expect on this brand new map.
Firstly, let's talk about the fact that this magnificent map boasts three staircases just inside the map for easy rotation for defenders and accessibility for attackers. This is extremely important as maneuverability around the map on both attack and defense is key to giving yourself the best opportunity for success in a round. They're also easily identifiable as they have key call out names corresponding to their features, such as orange stairs, green stairs and fountain stairs. This is the great part about Emerald Plains is that all of the call outs around the map are easy to learn due to the fact that they are named by corresponding features around that particular area or room.
For example, statue room is very easily identified because, well, it has great big statues inside of it. This goes to the same for lounge, pool and kitchen, among many other sites. Every single area of the map is easy to call out and named accordingly. In fact, if you were to be lost on the map and call it a feature of the room, your teammate will almost certainly know where you're speaking of as each room has distinctive features to assist with communication. It's awesome.
Speaking of call outs, you'll need to learn the names of the four bomb sites upon which you’ll have to attack and defend. The two top floor sites are CEO Office/Administration and Private Gallery/Meeting. The two bottom floor sites are Bar/Lounge and Dining/Kitchen.
Let's start off with CEO Office and Administration, where you'll be tasked with defending a set of sites where one of them requires you to be ready to battle engagements window side. Most interestingly, the sites are bordered by an external soft wall, which leads into Administration and a balcony which leads directly into CEO office. As a result, your best bet on defense is to bring a hard breach denial operator to make sure the walls stay closed and make sure you open lines of sight onto the window so the attacker doesn't quickly jump in and plant and then jump out. Then, if you're an attacker, your most advantageous access to the site is the CEO window and the waiting room where that external wall sits. Do you be careful though, a smart defending team will likely play with C4 or lines of sight from horizontal or below so you'll want to make sure to drone and clear them first if that's the case!
Then there's meeting and gallery, which boasts a much different layout to that of CEO and Admin. Here you need to be prepared for not just one external wall... but two! With that in mind, make sure you secure the Vault soft walls by reinforcing and adding wall denial. You can enter through multiple doors around the site, but the easiest entrance for attackers is from the safety of that balcony into Vaultor the door into Archives. Holding these two entry points as a defender will be key to your success. Then, on attack, you'll have the opportunity of traversing into the many parts of the site that have a hard floor. This is important as C4 operators won't be able to deny you planting, giving you an extra layer of safety. Then let's go relax in Bar and Lounge where those with a fear of heights need not fear no more... This is on the ground floor and unless you want to play from the hatch above bar and create a surprise angle, you'll be able to spawn in and go directly to the site. The most advantageous entrance here is either pool or stock to which you gain direct access to the site from. Bringing a hard breach to open stock wall and planting behind the bar will often be your best bet for success on attack, so if you're a defender, do your best to stop attackers from opening that wall if you can... Otherwise be ready to deny the plant from places like the hatch or from Lounge!
Lastly, we have dining and kitchen, which in my opinion holds some of the most creative map design for you to manipulate as a defender. In fact, look at all the insane angles you can create by simply opening lines of sight across both sides. It's cool huh? This is where you also find yourself having to defend to external soft walls that lead directly into pantry, which borders on to both bomb sites, which makes it the ultimate power position for both attackers and defenders. Attackers won't necessarily always have to take control of this room, especially if you want to open dining wall and plant on the other side. But as a defender, if you lose this room, you will almost have nowhere to go.. So make sure you put up a fight to defend it! Many sites on Emerald Plains give you the opportunity to plant and play from a window or rappel. Use that to your advantage in a post plant situation, whilst defenders will have to get creative with the other windows and doors around you! With a huge amount of accessibility around the map, plus a lot of soft breach horizontally and vertically, you will find yourself being able to manipulate parts of the map in ways you've never been able to before! Catch you in the server!
