The Recruit refers to various unnamed Rainbow Operators in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Franchise. While they do not possess any unique abilities or gadgets, they make up for this by having access to a wide variety of weapons.
Raven Shield[]
In the training missions in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield the operator names are Rookie. They can not be used in any of the regular missions, being replaced by the Reserves.
Siege[]
The Recruit is the default Operator featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. The Recruit is available in all playlists except Ranked and Unranked.
Gameplay Description[]
Rework[]
Instead of preset loadouts varying by CTU, attacking and defending recruits can now select different weapons and equipment in a similar manner to Operators. Sights and attachments are all automatically equipped to each weapon, weapon skins and attachment skins also cannot be equipped.
Attack Recruit[]
- "Available to all, the Attack Recruit has a specific loadout with preset attachments but no unique gadget, designed to learn the basics of an attacking round."

Original[]
- "A Highly Customizable Operator, the Recruit varies between equipment from the five base-game CTUs. As such, the Recruit brings more versatility than any other Operator, but lacks the ability to properly specialize in any particular role."
— In-game Description
- The Recruit is not able to customize their weapons with any sort of attachments or weapon skins.
- This comes to their detriment, as some of the weapons the Recruit can select have iron sights that are more obstructive than others.
- While Operators are limited to one line of secondary gadgets, Recruit can have two different kinds of secondary gadgets. For example, Recruits have access to Barbed Wire, along with either a Deployable Shield or a Nitro Cell.
- The Recruit's speed-health rating and available weapons vary depending on the selected CTU. Recruits can equip two generic gadgets since they don't have any special ability.
Attacker[]
Attacker Recruit carries two Drones and a Grappling Hook, just like any other Operator in-game.

Trivia[]
- Recruits had a different design during development, wearing a pair of sunglasses instead of goggles. This model can still be found used in promotional trailers and Rook's Operator video.[1]
- The Recruits from the GIGN, FBI SWAT and GSG 9 were the only Operators that had four Primary weapons (including the Ballistic Shield) in their Loadout.
- Recruits had 3 models, each corresponding to 1 health/speed level.[2]
- The Recruit was reworked with the release of the Operation Void Edge expansion.
- After the Recruit Rework, the Recruit Health and Speed was relatively 2 Health and 2 Speed.
- Additionally, all Recruit now uses FBI SWAT voice lines.
- The M249 the Recruit carries is Capitão's variant with the 100-round belt box and not Gridlock's M249 SAW with the 60-round magazine.
- The Recruit featured a different design and loadout in the Outbreak event. The Recruit can be found in the game files of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction with the same design.
- A glitch sometimes causes the Recruit's model to appear at the end of Incursions in place of a player's Operator.
- In Operation New Blood The Attacker will be Striker and Defender will be Sentry. Both of them replaced the old Recruit
