History

Red Storm Entertainment was founded by Tom Clancy and Virtus Corporation on November 13, 1996. This followed the release of the simulation game, Tom Clancy's SSN which was developed by Tom Clancy and Virtus Studios. Virtus Studios was then rebranded Red Storm Entertainment with Clancy named Chairman and Doug Littlejohns named President and Chief Executive Officer.

The studio released their first game, Tom Clancy's Politika in 1997 and became well known in the industry with the development and release of the first true tactical first person shooter, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, and a sequel Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. The success of both games led to Ubisoft purchasing the studio in August 2000.

In 2001, the studio released the acclaimed Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. The studio continued to grow and moved to a new location in Morrisville, North Carolina. In 2003, Ubisoft merged Sinister Games with Red Storm. Over the next decade, Red Storm would continue to develop installments in the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon franchises. Recently, the studio has provided a support role in the development of the Far Cry Series, Tom Clancy's The Division, and its sequel.
