There's only one kind of unit you can send in when you need to unleash some chaos. That's us. They say when you read a report from Redhammer, you shouldn't look at the details too close. If you had the stomach for the kind of work we do, you'd be on the field with us.
- Thermite

Redhammer is a specialized squad of Team Rainbow. Led by Jordan "Thermite" Trace, the squad was established by Harry "Six" Pandey following a restructuring of Rainbow.

Background[]

Overview[]

You can’t always keep things in a straight line. Sometimes you need an explosion.
- Thermite

Redhammer is not known for its delicate touch; when they are called in, all bets are off. They tear down anything and eliminate anyone that stands in their way. They are unshakeable and unstoppable, best suited for high-risk operations where casualties are all but guaranteed. They bring everything sharp and volatile, inflicting as much damage as necessary before the enemy can retaliate.

Specialist Jordan “Thermite” Trace and his squad are some of the most resilient individuals, having been evaluated as the most likely to survive dangerous missions through their strength, unquestioning natures, and trust in each other. Their reports come with a warning: when Redhammer is sent in, it’s implied that one should not look too closely at what they had to do.

History[]

Following the defection of Nighthaven in early 2022 and the notable increase of criminal activity around the world, Harry Pandey decided to reorganize Rainbow's operating structure into four squads, each having a specialized role. Redhammer was established to act as the high-risk cavalry unit, specializing in high-profile missions such as breaching and raiding.

Year 8[]

"Redhammer" is first mentioned by Taina "Caveira" Pereira when Rainbow stopped NIGHTHAVEN from openly engaging whomever stole their ordnances. It is implied, against Kali's contempt of Rainbow, that Redhammer would be specialized to deal with what NIGHTHAVEN was about to face.

Redhammer is first deployed to combat a terrorist hideout, whom are in possession of NIGHTHAVEN's ordnances. Captain Jordan "Thermite" Trace leads the operation, deploying with squad member Eliza "Ash" Cohen and Seamus "Sledge" Cowden. The operation is supported by Ghosteyes Captain Caveira and its hard hitter operator Zofia Bosak. With Ghosteyes doing the surveillance and providing combat support, Redhammer operators take point around the site. Captain Thermite calls the assault with his signature Exothermic Charge, before calling in Sledge and Ash from different angles to elimiate more and more terrorists. With Caveira keeping the last terrorist occupied, Thermite takes him down.

As the site is cleared, Ash mutters over NIGHTHAVEN and their stolen ordnances, and Thermite affirms their purpose to recover them. It is then revealed that the den had been rigged with explosives, and is about to explode in only a few seconds. Thermite notices this and prompts himself and Ash to run away, but is nevertheless caught in the explosion, considerably injuring both of them.

Record footage of the raid was somehow recovered by Gerald "Deimos" Morris, and is shown to Harry Pandey, before he is killed by Deimos.

Operation Dread Factor[]

With Emil "Fenrir" Svesson initiated into Rainbow as part of combat against the Keres Legion, he and several other Redhammer operators are deployed to Spain, where they face a hostage situation. Team leader Jalal "Kaid" El Fassi estimates the casualty from situation, from at least two to all eight, before communication is downed. The time closes even further when the terrorists press their demands in the last minutes, prompting Kaid to call upon the team members.

In a last minute tactic suggestion, Fenrir suggest the use of his F-NATT Dread Mine, an idea strongly opposed by Kaid, despite Fenrir's claim of self-test of the chemical weapon. The great leader opens himself to team suggestion, in which Sébastien "Buck" Côté, César "Goyo" Hernández and Azucena "Amaru" Quispe support to the idea in favor of the hostages' survival, while Saif "Oryx" Al Hadid said nothing. Kaid thus relented, but nevertheless reminds Fenrir that he does not get to fail.

The team splits up, with Kaid and Fenrir approaching the site to slip in the Dread Mine, while Amaru, Buck, Goyo and Oryx station themselves on rappel, ready to jump in. When all are in position, Fenrir activates his Dread Mine, releasing a gas which disorient the terrorists, while the other Redhammer operators jump in to eliminate the terrorists. The operation thus concluded with no hostage casualties. However, Kaid would still hold contempt against Fenrir.

One of the hostages stated that he is an employee of Yahata Data Services, and in fear of the terrorists, revealed an information of Rainbow's next training site and time to them: "Tower".

Operation Heavy Mettle[]

During Rainbow's training session at the Tower, supervised by Vigil and Ram, they are attacked by Keres Legion's attack helicoptor. This attack killed several Rainbow Recruits while they are on rappel session, and Ram rappels into the Tower to escape the attack. Once in, she activates her BU-GI Auto Breacher, which cuts her a path into the Tower's armory room. Ram picks up an LMG-E and reemerge outside, before taking out the attacking helicoptor by herself.

After regrouping with Vigil and moving down the elevator, they are encountered with more Keres ground troops. Assessing the situation that the Keres troop can track them rather too accurately, by identifying their usage of Drone, Ram proposes to use her BU-GI Auto Breacher as distraction to take out the drone operator. As Ram sends her breacher on its way, Vigil quickly flanks the drone operator, neutralizing the threat. Ram follows up and quickly take out the rest dozen of Keres attackers, before spotting one on the last stand and about to attack Vigil, and quickly react by detonating her Auto Breach, sending a shrapnel flaying to neutralize the threat.

With all threats neutralized, Ram recovers a collection of package, flight data and cockpit voice record, from the fallen helicoptor. Six days later, she brings those to Viperstrike headquarters. Deciphering the packages reveals that Keres Legion is up to something in Portugal, with Wolfguard operatives nearby.

Following the attack, Rainbow shifted its Recruit training policy, relocating all trainings to Hereford Base.

Year 9[]

Redhammer has not been shown to deploy for the majority of year. However, Blackbeard briefly appears to discuss with Mira about his Rifle Shield, and a potential remodel.

Operation Collision Point: Assault on Hereford[]

At Hereford Base, Blackbeard spars with a rainbow Sentry in a hand-to-hand combat training, supervised by Thorn. After the Sentry is thrown down and while Blackbeard is facing away, he pulls out a gun. This is quickly noticed by Thorn, who alerts Blackbeard and pulls out a gun of her own. Blackbeard reaches for his new H.U.L.L Adaptable Shield, and charges to tackle the rouge Sentry. As Blackbeard and Thorn, moves in to interrogate Sentry, the rouge recruit puts up their last stand, and is swiftly neutralized. And in shock of the moment.

The Assault on Hereford has begun.

Redhammer operators present at the base at that time, other than Blackbeard and Thorn, are Fenrir, Goyo, Gridlock, Kapkan, Oryx, and Tachanka. Blackbeard splits off to secure the perimeter and escort a GSAC member away fromthe scene, while the other operators group up to fight at the main building.

Trivia[]

  • Blackbeard was originally listed as a member of Viperstrike on the Harry's Board teaser, yet, his Rifle Shield was nowhere to be found in the Viperstrike Teaser Trailer. His MK17 CQB and Rifle Shield were later spotted in the Redhammer Teaser instead, hinting that he could have switched squads. Later, in the Y8S1 Reveal Panel, his operator icon was listed among the other Viperstrike operators, though, notably, Capitão's icon was missing, yet the Y8S1 Animated trailer confirms him as a member of the Squad.
  • The most likely explanation for this is that Capitão was originally meant to be a member of Redhammer and Blackbeard was originally meant to be a member of Viperstrike, until they were swapped for one another for reasons yet unknown as a "last minute" change.
