Sayed Elwany is a character that appears in the Urban Operations expansion of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear.
Biography[]
Sayed Elwany was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1943. He later became a fighter pilot in the Egyptian Air Force. In 1973, he was shot down by AA guns during the Yom Kippur War and spent three months in an Israeli hospital. Elway served as the Director of the Egyptian Air Force Academy from 1984 to 1987. In 1988 he was appointed as Egypt's representative in the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and then Egypt's UN ambassador in 1993.
Elwany played a central role during the late 1980's in attempts to negotiate a peace between Ethiopia and Eritria. During the 90's he chaired the United Nations Steering Committee on Mine Action and became a highly visible spokesman for an international ban on landmines.
Urban Operations[]
On February 2nd, 2003, Kurdish extremists raided ceasefire talks between the Kurds and the Turkish Government in in Istanbul and kidnapped Elwany and his aid. The Turkish police have tracked the kidnappers to an open-air market in Istanbul. Despite the terrorist's efforts, Rainbow was able to successfully rescue them.
