INDEX Analvsis:
Excerpt from "Preliminary Studies of Protista Chimerobacter chimerii Sp." (Álvarez, E.M.) - "Colonies of Chimera cells form a living growing biofilm similar to many other microorganisms but act collectively in a way we've never seen. Colloquially called Sprawl". (INSERT: INDEX - Name suggests unrestrained and irregular spread or growth. Plausible.)

Observation suggests Sprawl is the primary means of propagation for the Parasite. Acts as a complex biological system that is constantly evolving.

Most often appears as viscous web of black fluid composed of Chimera cells and an unidentified polymer matrix. Glutinous properties many hinder navigation through Hot-Zone.

May transform into more complex structures during periodical less-expansive phase. (Cross-ref: Nests, Aberrations)

EXTRAPOLATIONS:
Theorizing on fluid nature of Sprawl: Suggests a water-based medium (hydrogel) however, Sprawl shows little environment-related phase transition (reaction to temperature changes). Exact composition is unknown.

Speculating on Sprawl behavior: Various manifestations of Sprawl (see Nests, Archæans, Aberrations) imply an evolved type of quorum sensing (cellular-level response to population density). UNDEFINED: More data required.

ADDENDUM: Sprawl reacts to stimuli as a system, not as individual Chimera cells. Evidence of a complex web of communication. Signal propagation method (chemical or other) is unknown but could approximate a neural network. (INSERT: Finka - There is definitely more to this Sprawl than we first thought.)

Supporting evidence: Observed reaction to discharged weapons. Sprawl will contract away from point of impact. Perhaps a defensive neuronal reflex. Study needed on stimulus causing this effect (QUERY: concussive force, damage, muzzle flash, other)
