- "Tell me this thing is contained."
In February 2018, a mysterious alien Parasite dubbed the "Chimera virus" was unleashed on the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Over the next ten days, the parasite infected the majority of the town's population though government officials were able to successfully contain it for the time being. Those infected by the parasite began to be known as "Roaches". At the request of Eliza "Ash" Cohen, Aurelia "Six" Arnot sent Trace, Gustave "Doc" Kateb, and Alexsandr "Tachanka" Senaviev to meet Ash at a command center outside of the city and initiate Operation Chimera.
Trace later arrived at the site with Tachanka and the pair entered Ash's tent. Ash was on a video call with Doc who showed them with a infected severed arm how the parasite mutated to "create monsters". Trace asked Ash if it was contained and was told that while it was for the time being, the parasite was adapting faster than they could track. She explained that when they had increased the payload of the ordinance they were using against the parasite, Smashers were created as a result. Ash then told Trace that if the parasite broke containment and crossed the border into Mexico, the world would be in for a "long, bad night". Trace suggested that they nuke the town but Tachanka scoffed at this suggestion. Ash told him that while it was on the table, they were there to make sure that they keep that as a last resort and that operators were already in the field. She then showed Trace the information files of Olivier "Lion" Flament and Lera "Finka" Melnikova and stated that it was imperative that they turn the tide in the fight against the parasite.
A short time later, Ash was rehearsing her upcoming briefing to Six concerning a nursery that was built by the Parasite in the town's Sierra Paradose resort. She was interrupted by Trace who was tinkering with the nanothermite charges that were going to be planted in the nursery. Ash scolded him as their briefing was in less than a minute though Trace stated that he only wanted to make sure they were built correctly. Trace then rehearsed his part of the briefing, stating that they would use those charges to burn the nursery as they could not bomb it due to ongoing operations in the area. Their briefing was successful in convincing Six to approve the mission. With Trace acting as mission control, Rainbow was able to destroy the nursery. During the extraction, however, Marius "Jäger" Streicher's helicopter was attacked and crashed, injuring him. Despite heavy opposition, Rainbow was able to rescue Jäger and leave the area.
Trace continued to serve as mission control during Rainbow's rescue of Ellen Mackintosh from the town's hospital as well as their mission to find and recover the capsule where the Parasite originated in the junkyard of Boyd Brooks. Despite their efforts, the town was destroyed and Parasite was able to break containment.
Over the next few years, the parasite had evolved into the Archæans and had spread to other areas in the United States, notably New York City, San Francisco, and Alaska. New containment zones were subsequently established around afflicted areas. Trace helped Rainbow establish REACT and oversaw various missions within these zones to gather more information about the Parasite to discover a way to stop it. At an unspecified point, Yumiko "Hibana" Imagawa was captured by the Archæans. Trace comforted Hibana's boyfriend and fellow operative, Jack "Pulse" Estrada while Ash sent a team to rescue her.
