- "When you mix fuel, metal oxide and metal powder in just the right way, it burns at 2000 degrees Celsius. Hot enough to cut through nearly any barrier known to man. Throw some C4 into the mix, and you've got one hell of a combination."
— Thermite
Jordan Trace, codenamed Thermite, is an Attacking Operator featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile.
Biography[]
- "A really big fucking hole coming right up!"
— Thermite
Jordan Trace was born in Plano, Texas. Due to the town having a major concentration of Chinese Americans, Trace grew up to have a conversational level of Mandarin. Trace joined the Corps straight out of high school, making him a fourth-generation Marine. Following his first tour of Iraq, he obtained enough experience to volunteer as an explosive ordnance disposal technician. After his second tour of Iraq, Trace returned to the U.S., enrolled at Texas A&M, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He brought his experiences and skills to the FBI, where he spent fours years as a field agent with the Hazardous Materials Response Unit. It was during this time that he met Detective Apha "Aruni" Tawanroong of the Royal Thai Police. During an operation in Bangkok, Trace and Tawanroong were tracking down a weapons racket when a bomb had been discovered. Transporting the bomb in a pick-up truck through the streets of Bangkok, Trace attempted to defuse it. He ultimately failed when the truck suffered a head-on collision. As a result of the accident and explosion, Tawanroong lost her left arm and leg while Trace only suffered third-degree burns to his hands and arms. Trace later recovered from his injuries though he felt responsible for Tawanroong's injuries.
Seeking more dynamic environments, Trace transferred into FBI SWAT, where he excelled at developing new barricade protocols. In 2015, he earned a spot in Rainbow where he's shown further interest in research and development on gadget upgrades.[1] This was evident when he collaborated with Yumiko "Hibana" Imagawa to create her X-KAIROS exothermic gadget, eventually leading to a close friendship.
In late 2020, Trace reconciled with Tawanroong who had recently been recruited into Rainbow and had traveled to the Stadium for training. Tawanroong told Trace that she never blamed him for her injuries and that she was going to train hard to beat him in the upcoming Six Invitational.
Following the defection of Nighthaven from Rainbow in early 2022 as well as the notable increase of criminal activity around the world, Harry "Six" Pandey reorganized Rainbow's operating structure into four teams, each having a specialized role. Trace was chosen to lead Redhammer, which was established to undertake high-risk missions, acting as the cavalry if necessary.
In early 2023, Trace took part in a joint operation between Redhammer and Ghosteyes to recover stolen Nighthaven weaponry from an unknown group. However, this was quickly discovered to be a trap set by former Rainbow operative Deimos, who sought to eliminate all members of Rainbow. A bomb was detonated within the compound, injuring Trace and his teammates.[2]
While recovering from Deimos's attack, Trace got into an argument with Hibana about a potential operation to be led by Viperstrike operator Nayara "Brava" Cardoso, who had hesitated to shoot Deimos during an earlier strike. He agreed to Hibana's decision to let her lead the operation, on the condition that she follows through on killing Deimos if she gets the opportunity.
Psychological Profile:[]
Regimented, disciplined, orderly, these are the words people use to describe Trace. He knows when to relax, especially in social situations. He takes pride in knowing all of the variables. Trace prefers to be the one in control rather than leave things to chance.
Psychological Report[]
For someone so disciplined and orderly, Specialist Jordan "Thermite" Trace likes to surprise. He can be a practical joker and he's always ready with a smart aleck comment. Beneath the surface, however ,the recent loss of his sister to cancer, and the death of his mother a few years prior, have made it difficult for him to channel his thoughts and energy with the focus to which he is accustomed.[…] I am concerned that he uses humor to avoid his grief. It's important he understands that some coping mechanisms can delay the healing process. There are resources that can help him, and I will continue to offer them when and where I may. […]
Trace demonstrates strong tactical leadership, but can also plow ahead without consensus. I don't believe there's any lasting friction with other team members. He's well-liked by the others and has a solid working relationship with Specialists Yumiko "Hibana" Imagawa, Mike "Thatcher" Baker, and Emmanuelle "Twitch" Pichon. He can be quite the social-butterfly in his downtime. […]
A few things to work on: Trace has excellent communication, when he chooses to use it. He has good strategies but sometimes tends to "lock in." I know that he's capable of being a more agile thinker, so I've given him some tips on how to recognize when he's becoming too... bullheaded. […]
There's a lot going on behind his smile. I'd like him to find a way to regulate himself, to find balance for his work and private life. Trace doesn't show obvious stressors, opting instead to channel any anxious energy into something positive such as the R&D lab. It has been difficult to convince him that he needs a break from his role and identify as an operator. Shifting his attention to other intense tasks isn't a solution. […] I've given him some mental relaxation exercises that don't demand considerable time, but can be tackled throughout the day. Imagawa, in particular, can be a good influence on him since she regularly practices mindfulness techniques to focus and relax. I hope he will take her advice to heart.

Gameplay Description[]
A Medium Health Operator, Thermite is equipped with two Brimstone BC-3 Exothermic Charges. These charges can breach through any Reinforced Wall within three seconds of activation.
- Exothermic Charges can be deployed on any destructible surface, including reinforced ones.
- Exothermic Charges have a roughly 3 second deployment animation, longer than that of the normal Breach Charges.
- Exothermic Charges are remotely activated, so they cannot be activated if they or Thermite are in the effective range of Mute's Signal Disruptors.
- Deployed Exothermic Charges are destroyable by any source of damage, including electricity from Bandit's Shock Wires or Kaid's Electroclaws.
- When activated, Exothermic Charges play a roughly 3 second "heat up" animation and then explodes destroying surfaces, even reinforced ones, in a large area.
- During this "heat up" time, the Exothermic Charges release visible sparks on both sides of the wall, and makes a loud sizzling noise, giving Defenders inside a clear warning to the breach.
- The explosion radius on the Exothermic Charges is significantly larger than an average breaching charge. This explosion radius of 4 meters can also take out nearby walls or hatches when used properly.
- The blast from Exothermic Charge is lethal, with damage dropoff radius around 3-4 meters
- The blast is also lethal on the deployer side (at point blank), but the damage dropff radius is much smaller.
Strategies[]
- Because of the long deployment time of the Exothermic Charges, the Gadget Deployment setting in the Controls section under the Options menu should preferably be set to Advanced, which will allow Thermite to cancel his deployment mid-animation.
- Because of the large explosion radius of the Exothermic Charges, they can destroy reinforced surfaces adjacent to the wall they are placed on. This can be used in certain situations to destroy a Reinforced Wall shocked or jammed by Bandit, Kaid, or Mute's gadgets, by detonating an Exothermic Charge on an adjacent, perpendicular wall that is not shocked or jammed.
- This can also be applied in a few other ways: Detonating an Exothermic Charge on the floor next to a reinforced wall can destroy the bottom of the reinforced wall. Detonating an Exothermic Charge on a wall next to a reinforced hatch will destroy the hatch along with the wall.
Synergies[]
- Thatcher can disable Signal Disruptors, Shock Wires, and Electroclaws, allowing Thermite to plant his Exothermic Charge.
- Impact EMP can also disable Electronics, but with less efficiency.
- Twitch and Zero can destroy Signal Disruptors, Shock Wires, and Electroclaws.
- Brava can destroy Shock Wires and Electroclaws, or convert Signal Disruptors. But this costs one of the three hacking charges
- Kali can aid Thermite by deploying her LV Lance before the charge is set down to clear anti-breaching gadgets.
- Flores's RCE-RATERO Drones can blow up anti-breaching gadgets.
Device Description[]
- "Sets an exothermic charge that destroys reinforced walls."
— BRIMSTONE BC-3 Exothermic Charge Description
Developed by FBI SWAT engineers, the BRIMSTONE was designed to breach reinforced locations utilizing a compact and portable explosive load that can deliver maximum force and destruction. As can be seen in the game, the charge first burns through the barrier and then blows that cut piece up with C4. The BRIMSTONE was effectively utilized in the field during a rescue operation in which several people were held hostage in a fortified farmhouse. (Which can possibly be a hint of the operation taking place in Oregon.) The destructive power of the BRIMSTONE allowed agents to breach a reinforced metal security door at the back of the house.
Device Evaluation[]
Device: Brimstone BC-3 Exothermic Charge
Operator: Specialist Jordan "Thermite" Trace
Evaluation Lead: Specialist Yumiko "Hibana" Imagawa
Thermite's Brimstone was one of the first devices tested in the new lab. It's the same way he has to be the first through any reinforced walls. Always has to be first.:) On the day of testing, Specialist Trace was busy developing additional prototypes as he did during Operation Chimera and wasn't immediately available. Since I'm very familiar with the Exothermic BC-3 Charge and have an expertise in explosive ordnance, I volunteered to conduct the evaluation. Our tests included adjusting the mixture stages to see if we could achieve stronger and more concentrated "melt". The results helped us clearly determine the chemical reaction times at peak temps. Our tests on the Brimstone BC-3 Exothermic Charge went well and produced some surprising results. Some were enough of a surprise to lure Thermite to join us (that was fun). We've been able to book extra time to apply some of the data to his prototypes. I'll file another entry as soon as we're done.
