The Type 97, officially known as the QBZ-97, is an 5.56×45mm NATO export variant of the QBZ-95 bullpup assault rifle, designed in 1991 by Norinco in China to be the standard service weapon of the People's Liberation Army and official police factions. The Type 97 variant has been modified to accept STANAG magazines of NATO weaponry.
The Type 97 is categorized as an assault rifle in the Rainbow Six universe.

In the PC version of the game, the T-97 is used by Faisal Amidan's militia in the missions Algeria and Desert Village, and by the New Freedom Army in the mission Amsterdam.
